Guest Readers at Polk Street School

Retired teachers from the Sewanhaka Central High School District and the Franklin Square School District have been visiting classrooms to read picture books to students. Under the direction of Miss Julie O'Keeffe, the readers share a book, usually centered on a holiday theme. On December 16th , first grade students heard stories such as There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell and Snowmen at Night. We look forward to their return in February when our fifth graders will be treated to a dramatic rendition of Dr. Seuss' Hooray for Diffendoofer Day! It is always a special day at Polk Street School when they visit.

  1. I think the guest reading was a great idea because it gave these retired teachers a chance to read and teach students again. I hope everyone enjoyed the guest readers and that maybe we will do something like this again.

  2. I remember when I was in 5th grade and the guest readers cam and did a play for us so it was even better that they did it for the 1 st graders too.
