C.A.R.E. Walk/Run at Polk St. School

On Friday, May 22nd, students, staff and parents participated in Polk Street School's C.A.R.E. Walk/Run. Sponsored by the school's Building Team, "Cans Are Reaching Everyone" was actually a food drive with a creative spin. Participation in the Walk/Run required a donation of a non-perishable food item. Donations will be sent to Long Island Cares, Inc., the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Thank you especially to Mrs. Andrade, Mrs. Cartelli, and Mrs. Cosgrove for all they did to make this a successful event. An extra special thank you goes out to Mr. Jerry Monaco, a Board of Education Trustee and former PSS parent, for serving as our Grand Marshal! Take a moment now to enjoy the video that highlights some of the events of the day.

Eating Healthy with Mrs. Landsman's Class

Mrs. Landsman's sixth grade class continued their committment to fitness with "Healthy Snack Day". On Tuesday, May 12th, each student brought in a creative, healthy snack to share with their classmates. The tasty delicacies included Brownie Surprise, made with semi-sweet chocolate and carrot puree, Spinach Muffins, and Strawberry Bars. The students and their teacher, and even the Assistant Principal, sampled many of the treats. All agreed that healthy can still be delicious!

Polk Street School's Book Swap

On April 29th and 30th, Polk Street School held its second annual Book Swap during each recess period. In the weeks preceding the event, students brought in "gently used" books from their home collections to donate. On the days of the Book Swap, students then selected "new " books to take home. They were allowed to take the same number of books they had brought in. Once again, the program was a success, promoting reading and providing excitement for students. Thank you to all on Polk Street School's Building Team, especially Mrs. Cartelli and Mrs. Cosgrove, for organizing the event, and thank you also to the many parent volunteers.
